National Center for Gene Therapy and Drugs based on RNA Technology

Spoke7 - Biocomputing

Advancing towards an innovative moment in RNA-based therapeutics, the strength of the project lies in the various disciplines involved in bringing pharmaceutical products to the marketplace. With researchers focused on unveiling early lead drug candidates for the preclinical proof of concept before engaging in the implementation of clinical trials, to those occupying the engineering of drug delivery platforms, the comprehensive approach to the project extends to building the technological tools needed to manufacture final products.

The National Center for Gene Therapy and Drugs based on RNA Technology acts as the central Hub that facilitates the interconnection between 10 Spokes. As the single point of contact, the Hub manages and coordinates 36-month research program activities, while the Spokes focus on translating research results into the development and manufacturing of personalized medicines.

CNR-IOM participates in Spoke7.

Spoke7 aims to establish a state-of-the-art bioinformatics ecosystem of data and tools, fully integrated with the Italian Node of ELIXIR – the European Research Infrastructure for Life Science Data – that supports the activities of the other horizontal and vertical spokes. The integration of this bioinformatic ecosystem will play a dual role. First, it will provide data-driven findings generating insights and testable hypotheses on novel potential targets (i.e. prediction of neoantigens, splicing isoforms, edited or modified RNAs, 3D structures or interactions, pathways/networks, etc.). Second, it will hold finely tailored RNA-based therapeutics pinpointing optimal solutions to define the integration of experimental assays and biocomputing predictions.
