We are excited to announce the first post-pandemic IOM Workshop, scheduled for November 5th - 7th at ICTP in Trieste.

The event represents a valuable opportunity to:

  • dentify emerging scientific topics and new scientific synergies, that could foster participation in innovative, large-scale research projects;
  • utline the foundations of the Institute's scientific strategy for the coming years;
  • eet in person and strengthen personal connections by reviewing all ongoing activities, involving all staff members - researchers, technologists, technical, and administrative personnel.

Program

The workshop will begin at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 5th and end at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 7th.

On Wednesday, 5th at 6:30 PM, we are pleased to invite all participants to the documentary theater performance about the life of Bernardo Dessau, an eminent physicist who carried out his work in between Perugia and Bologna, in the first half of the previous century. The performance will be followed by a social dinner. All participants will be transported to the dinner venue by a private bus arranged by the organizers.

We warmly invite you to contribute to this exciting event, which aims to foster interaction among IOM researchers, technologists, technical, and administrative staff. Contributions that encourage discussions on visionary topics of broad and shared interest are especially welcome.

This workshop will provide a platform to reflect on the Institute’s progress and to shape innovative research ideas that will contribute to the future development of IOM.

We look forward to receiving contributions that will spark stimulating discussions and help us collectively to envision the future of the Institute.

Useful Information

Workshop Fee

Participation in the workshop, including access to workshop materials, the documentary theatre performance, the social dinner, and private transportation to and from the dinner venue, is free of charge for all IOM employees, associates, and collaborators.

Workshop Social Dinner

Dinner preferences and any food allergies will be requested via the registration form. Details about the dinner venue will be announced shortly.

Accommodation

We have reserved rooms at the ICTP Guesthouse for IOM employees coming from the others IOM sites.

By plane

Nearest airports:

  1. Trieste Airport (TRS) – about 40 km from ICTP
    From the airport:
    • Train: Take a regional train from the airport’s integrated train station (Trieste Airport–Ronchi dei Legionari) to "Trieste Centrale", then follow bus directions below.
    • Car/taxi: About 40 minutes by car/taxi.
  2. Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) – about 150 km from ICTP
    Take a shuttle bus or taxi to Venezia Mestre train station, then a train to Trieste Centrale.

By train

Take a train to Trieste Centrale railway station. From Trieste Centrale, take Bus (see below) or Taxi to ICTP (about 25 minutes by car).

Train schedules: Trenitalia

By bus

Take Bus No. 6 from Trieste city center (near Piazza Oberdan) toward Grignano or Miramare. Stop at “Grignano / Centro Studi” or “Miramare” (closest to ICTP). Travel time: about 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic. Runs approximately every 20 minutes on weekdays.

By car

ICTP is located in Miramare, Trieste, near the SS14 coastal road (Strada Costiera). Use GPS or map apps with this address: Strada Costiera 11, 34151 Trieste, Italy.

From Trieste city center: Take SS14 (Strada Costiera) heading northwest along the coast. ICTP is about 10 km from the city center (~15–20 minutes by car).
