National Centre for HPC, Big Data and Quantum Computing

Spoke7 - Materials & Molecular Sciences

The National Centre for HPC, Big Data and Quantum Computing, created and managed by the ICSC, is one of the five National Centres established by the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), covering designated strategic sectors for the development of the country.

The activities of the Centre will focus on maintenance and upgrade of the Italian HPC and Big Data infrastructure, as well as on the development of advanced methods and numerical applications and software tools to integrate computing, simulation, collection, and analysis of data of interest for research, manufacturing, and society, also through cloud and distributed approaches.

CNR-IOM participates in Spoke7.

Spoke7 aims to strengthen Italy's leadership in the development, implementation and distribution of high-performance scientific software for multi-scale simulation of complex materials and molecular systems, and will also aim to optimize and broaden the application spectrum of these software to address our country's scientific, technological and societal challenges. Spoke 7 will, in addition, need to enable and facilitate access to massive computing resources by public and private entities for applications to emerging new materials technologies, and to direct national research efforts in molecular and materials sciences toward strategic applications identified by the NRP.
